Cameron Diaz to star in Troop Beverly Hills sequel
Cameron Diaz came out of her decade-long retirement last year with Back in Action, and she’s making up for lost time with a slew of new projects, including a sequel to Troop Beverly Hills.
Troop Beverly Hills Sequel
Deadline reports that Diaz is set to star in a sequel to Troop Beverly Hills. The 1989 comedy starred Shelley Long as a pampered Beverly Hills housewife who decides to become the leader of a local troop of Wilderness Girls to help maintain a relationship with her daughter during a divorce. The film was released just two years after Long decided to leave Cheers, and while it was a critical and commercial disappointment at the time, it has since become a cult favourite among fans who appreciate its feminist message.
The follow-up is set to be written and directed by Clea DuVall (Happiest Season).
What’s Next for Cameron Diaz?
Next up for Diaz is Outcome, a comedy in which she stars alongside Keanu Reeves, Jonah Hill (who also directs), and Matt Bomer. The logline reads: “Reef Hawk (Reeves), a beloved Hollywood star who must dive into the depths of his hidden demons after he is extorted with a mysterious video that’s sure to shatter his image and end his career. With the support of his lifelong friends Kyle (Diaz) and Xander (Matt Bomer), along with his crisis lawyer Ira (Hill), Reef embarks on a soul-searching journey to make amends with anyone he could have possibly wronged in hopes of identifying the blackmailer.” The film will be released on Apple TV on April 10.
She’s also set to return as Princess Fiona in Shrek 5. Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy are also back, with Zendaya joining the cast as Felicia, the daughter of Shrek and Fiona. The long-awaited sequel will drop in theaters on June 30, 2027.
And then there’s Bad Day, an action comedy with vibes similar to Joel Schumacher’s 1993 psychological drama Falling Down. The film focuses on “a single mom fighting to keep one little promise to her daughter on the absolute worst day of her life.” This one is set to be released by Netflix, but doesn’t have a date yet.
