Cannes Film Festival 2026 lineup includes Soderbergh, Refn, and a lot of arthouse projects

The Cannes Film Festival 2026, the 79th edition of the festival, is set to run from May 12 – May 23 – and with those dates swiftly approaching, the festival’s lineup of films has been revealed, including the latest films from Steven Soderbergh and Nicolas Winding Refn, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, the directorial debut of John Travolta, and a whole lot of arthouse projects. The Hollywood Reporter notes that, even during the lineup announcement, the organizers pointed out that there was a glaring lack of Hollywood studio projects scheduled for this year’s edition of the festival.

“Arthouse darlings” will have a major presence on the Croisette, as some of the filmmakers debuting their latest works at the Cannes Film Festival are Ira Sachs, Pedro Almodóvar, Asghar Farhadi, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Marie Kreutzer, László Nemes, Volker Schlöndorff, Jane Schoenbrun, Cristian Mungiu, Lukas Dhont, Paweł Pawlikowski, and Ryûsuke Hamaguchi.

This isn’t the complete lineup, more titles will be added in the coming weeks, but THR was surprised to see that the latest films from directors Joel Cohen, Takashi Miike, Lars von Trier, Radu Jude, and Werner Herzog weren’t included in this wave of announcements.
