Jason Statham takes down a human trafficking syndicate on the high seas in the new trailer for Mutiny

Statham on the high seas

Lionsgate has just released the new trailer for the new Jason Statham actioner Mutiny. Statham collaborates with Plane director Jean-François Richet and is joined by Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller and Adrian Lester.

In Mutiny, after his billionaire industrialist boss is murdered in front of him, Cole Reed is set up to take the fall for the crime — leaving him on the run. Reed boards a cargo ship on a one-man crusade to avenge his boss’ death, only to discover an international conspiracy.

The trailer offers more of what you’d expect from Statham, but if you love seeing him beat up people, then it looks like you’ll be eating good with this film! It may seem like somewhat of a Die Hard scenario where he’s stuck on a ship surrounded by an army of bad guys, but let’s face it, the bad guys are actually stuck on a ship with a rampaging Jason Statham. The action looks like a lot of fun, so bring it on.

The details on Mutiny

Lionsgate, MadRiver, and Punch Palace are teaming up to release the film in theaters. Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis (PlaneThe Contractor) wrote the screenplay for Mutiny. Statham produces through his newly-founded Punch Palace Productions, with Marc Butan via his MadRiver Pictures studio.

“Jason Statham is one of the most kinetic action stars in the world and we look forward to teaming him up with Jean-François and the MadRiver team who we previously worked with on Plane,” said Lauren Bixby, SVP of co-productions and Acquisitions for the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “We can’t wait to see that creative energy once again as we bring Mutiny to life,” she added.

Mutiny sails into theaters on August 21.

His next meta role

Recently, it was reported that the action star and The Fall Guy and Bullet Train director David Leitch will collaborate on a project that sounds like a fourth-wall-breaking project like Nicolas Cage’s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, with a Statham flavor. Plot details for the film, titled Jason Statham Stole My Bike, are being kept tightly under wraps, but the project will reportedly feature the actor “in the role of a lifetime, playing global action superstar Jason Statham.” The film is being mounted with a budget north of $80 million and will feature multiple large-scale action set pieces. The screenplay comes from Alison Flierl (BoJack Horseman), with production expected to begin in May.

In addition to directing, Leitch will produce alongside Kelly McCormick for 87 North. Statham will produce through Punch Palace Productions, with John Friedberg producing for Black Bear, and Meredith Berg and Ethan Erwin producing for Beryllium Entertainment.
