Kevin Bacon to lead Hulu’s drama pilot for Southern Bastards from The Punisher: One Last Kill director
After starring in projects like X-Men: First Class, Super, R.I.P.D., and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Kevin Bacon is getting ready to help lead another comic book adaptation with Southern Bastards, a gritty tale based on the award-winning graphic novel series by Jason Aaron and Jason Latour.
What’s Southern Bastards about?
Southern Bastards follows a tenacious military vet into Craw County, Alabama, in search of her estranged father. What she finds is a murderous hornet’s nest of organized crime run by the South’s winningest high school football coach. According to Deadline, Bacon plays Earl, the son of the legendary Sheriff Bert, who ruled Craw County with an iron fist. Earl is a tough but humble blue-collar army veteran — eager to mend fences and reconnect with his daughter, and not afraid to stir the hornet’s nest that is Craw County.
Southern Bastards, published by Image Comics from 2014 to 2018, is an Eisner Award-winning comic book series. The gritty drama comprises four volumes totaling 21 issues. Hulu’s adaptation comes from The Punisher: One Last Kill director Reinaldo Marcus Green. A trailer for Marvel’s Special Presentation, featuring Jon Bernthal as the one-person army Frank Castle, debuted this afternoon, teasing the character’s ongoing battle with the sins of his past and his efforts to clean up the streets, one criminal at a time.
Bacon’s latest film is a family affair
Kevin Bacon’s latest film project is Family Movie. Bacon directs the comedic horror movie from a screenplay by Dan Beers. The film tells the story of a filmmaking family that finds themselves in a real-life horror movie when a body turns up on the set of their low-budget slasher, forcing them to cover up the murder to keep filming. Kevin Bacon, Sosie Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Nathaniel Woolsey, John Carroll Lynch, Trisha LaFache, Jackie Earl Haley, Scoot McNairy, and Andrea Savage lead the cast.
Bacon’s next project is History’s Strange Fortunes with Kevin Bacon, a documentary recounting some of the oddest financial stories in U.S. history, from a gold miner who unearthed a $1 million nugget to an epic heist that turned a circus hypnotist into an infamous con artist.
I’ve waited years for someone to adapt Southern Bastards. I read through the entire series as it was hitting the shelves, always thinking it would make for a great television series. I trust Reinaldo Marcus Green to adapt the hard-hitting drama, and look forward to hearing feedback about the pilot episode.
