All seven seasons of Tales from the Crypt are coming to Shudder

Inspired by the EC horror comic books from the 1950s, the TV series Tales from the Crypt ran on HBO for a total of 7 seasons and 93 episodes, starting in 1989 and wrapping up in 1996. If you want the iconic Cryptkeeper to tell you some tales, you can buy the complete run of Tales from the Crypt on DVD (no Blu-ray, unfortunately) at THIS LINK – but the big news today is that all seven seasons of the show are coming to the Shudder streaming service!

The first season will reach Shudder on May 1, with additional seasons rolling out weekly every Friday through June 12.

Tales from the Crypt was previously available on Vudu, but the show never made it onto HBO Max, HBO Go, or HBO Now due to licensing issues that Shudder has apparently been able to overcome.

NEW: AMC Global Media (formerly AMC Networks) is bringing all seven seasons of the HBO show “Tales From the Crypt” to its horror streaming service Shudder.

What is Tales from the Crypt?

Television viewers got a fright in 1989, when Tales from the Crypt made the transition from EC comic book to TV. Hosted by the Cryptkeeper, each episode of the show offered a new, ghoulish tale for the audience to sink their teeth (or fangs) into. It was such a success that myriad Crypt-inspired spinoffs resulted, including an animated series, several feature films, and seemingly infinite merchandising opportunities. A popular favorite among horror-film fans, Tales from the Crypt also appeals to viewers who love the visceral thrill of jumping out of their seats as terrifying scenes unfold in front of them.

John Kassir provided the voice of the Cryptkeeper.

Richard Donner, David Giler, Walter Hill, Joel Silver, and Robert Zemeckis were the executive producers, and the show featured a long list of notable guest stars, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Hanks, Michael J. Fox, Demi Moore, John Lithgow, Christopher Reeve, Catherine O’Hara, Tim Curry, Brad Pitt, Lea Thompson, Kirk Douglas, Daniel Craig, Ewan McGregor, Steve Buscemi, and a whole lot more.

Shudder recently found it way onto the “naughty list” for a lot of horror fans (including myself) with their cancellation of The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs. There are still four more Joe Bob specials to look forward to as the year goes on, so Tales from the Crypt will give fans something else to watch while they wait to see the final Last Drive-in episodes on Shudder.
