The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer revealed at CinemaCon and you can watch it right now!
The Mandalorian and Grogu will be the first new Star Wars movie released in theaters in over six years, but it doesn’t feel like the film is generating the excitement it should. Thankfully, Disney has dropped a new trailer from The Mandalorian and Grogu at CinemaCon, which should help you get a little more pumped. Unlike most of the trailers revealed at the convention, you can check this one out right now.

In addition to the trailer, we also saw the first ten minutes of the film. It kicks off with Din Djarin attacking a warlord who has been exploiting the townspeople on an ice planet. Along with Grogu, he takes on three AT-AT walkers. Our own Chris Bumbray, who has been attending CinemaCon, said it was action-packed and surprisingly violent, with Mando killing something like 40 Stormtroopers in this sequence alone. And not just with his blaster either, but with fire and a good ol’ fashioned kick off a cliff.
What we saw still has a relatively light tone, but it could be the most violent Star Wars movie we’ve seen. It is very much like the series, just much bigger. The film also appears to have opening credits, which is a first for a Star Wars movie.
Is Disney Worried?
A report earlier this year mentioned that The Mandalorian and Grogu is “something of a question mark” for the studio. Additionally, given that the film is based on a streaming series, it “may not seem like a big-screen proposition for any but the most die-hard Baby Yoda lovers.“
This came on the heels of the film’s Super Bowl commercial, which felt like a real misfire. It leaned into a nostalgic, old-school Super Bowl commercial vibe, complete with narration by Sam Elliott and featured a pack of Tauntauns pulling Din Djarin and Grogu. This was the chance to introduce the film to one of the biggest audiences in the world, and it really should have been the proper trailer, which they ultimately released a week later.
I’ve got my fingers crossed that The Mandalorian and Grogu will be a fun time at the movies, but we also have Star Wars: Starfighter to look forward to next year.
The logline reads: “The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu.” The film will theaters on May 22.
