Gina Carano has spoken with Lucasfilm about possible Star Wars return
If you remember, Gina Carano played Cara Dune in the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, but she was forced off the Star Wars series after making a few controversial statements online. She filed a lawsuit against Disney alleging wrongful termination and discrimination, but a mutual agreement was ultimately reached. Now, Carano has teased a possible return to the Star Wars franchise.

While speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Carano said, “I’ve already had a conversation with Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. Really lovely. After we settled the lawsuit, we got on a Zoom call. It was really nice. Dave Filoni is taking over CEO of Star Wars, and it’s like we didn’t even miss a beat. Jon Favreau was really funny. He got on the Zoom and was like, ‘So, where did we leave off?’ We hadn’t spoke for a while.“
When Carano reached an agreement with Disney and Lucasfilm, the studios released a statement which said: “The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies. Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.“
Prior to her termination, it was expected that Carano would star in Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic, a live-action series announced in 2020. However, the series was cancelled after the controversy, with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy explaining that although scripts were never written for the series, some concepts and ideas from it would be incorporated into future episodes of The Mandalorian.
Carano vs. Rousey
However, Carano’s next project won’t be on the silver screen, but in the ring. She’s set to battle Ronda Rousey in an MMA fight, which will be streamed live on Netflix on May 16. Both have been out of the fighting game for many years, so fans have been waiting for this match-up for a while.
“Ronda came to me and said there is only one person she would make a comeback for and it has been her dream to make this fight happen between us,” Carano said. “She thanked me for opening up doors for her in her career and was respectful in asking for this fight to happen. This is an honor. I believe I will walk out of this fight with the win and I anticipate it will not come easy, which I welcome. This is as much for Ronda and me as it is for the fans and mixed martial arts community. What a time to be alive.“
