Jurassic Park’s Sam Neill says he’s now free of cancer: “It looked like I was on the way out”
Cancer f***ing sucks. I think most of us know someone who has had cancer, or perhaps even battled it ourselves, so it’s always nice to hear when someone has survived the disease. Sam Neill was diagnosed with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma in 2022, but the Jurassic Park actor has revealed that he is now free of cancer.
Sam Neill is Cancer-Free
“I’ve been living with a particular type of lymphoma for about five years and I was on chemotherapy and the pretty miserable business but it was keeping me alive,” Neill told Australia’s 7News, before adding that the chemo actually stopped working at one point. “I was at a loss and it looked like I was on the way out, which wasn’t ideal obviously.“
Neill then participated in a clinical trial of CAR T-cell therapy, which involves genetically modifying blood cells. As a result, he’s free of cancer. “I’ve just had a scan just now and there is no cancer in my body, that’s an extraordinary thing,” he said. “I’m very, very excited that this can happen.” He’s now calling for the therapy to be rolled out across Australia.
When Neill was first diagnosed, he said he wasn’t necessarily afraid to die, only that he would be annoyed with what he’d be missing out on. “I’m not afraid to die, but it would annoy me,” he said. “Because I’d really like another decade or two, you know? We’ve built all these lovely terraces, we’ve got these olive trees and cypresses. I want to be around to see it all mature. And I’ve got my lovely little grandchildren. I want to see them get big. But as for the dying? I couldn’t care less.“
Upcoming Projects
Although he took a brief break from acting, Neill has been active in a handful of productions. He most recently starred alongside Eric Bana in Untamed, a Netflix series about an investigation into a woman’s death in Yosemite National Park. He’s also starring alongside Kaitlyn Dever, Dan Stevens, Jack O’Connell, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Delroy Lindo, and Matthew Modine in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, the next MonsterVerse movie from Legendary. The film is slated to be released on March 26, 2027.
