Bobby Farrelly gets behind the wheel of a classic high school senior road trip comedy for the Driver’s Ed trailer
When you look back on your senior year, what do you see? I’ll need to part the cloud of weed smoke before I can recall, but I remember raising all kinds of hell. More than my parents ever knew about. I once threw a concert with local bands in the basement of my house. Kegs, charging at the door… other stuff. It was a blast, and a miracle I never got caught. In today’s trailer for Bobby Farrelly‘s Driver’s Ed, a group of high school seniors embarks on a road trip that finds them breaking rules and running from the cops, all to reach a college dorm party that could open their eyes to the wonders of life after graduation.
Vertical will release Driver’s Ed in select theaters and On Demand beginning May 15, 2026. Acquired from AGC Studios and directed by comedy legend Bobby Farrelly (Dumb and Dumber, There’s Something About Mary, Champions), the teen comedy stars Sam Nivola (The White Lotus), Sophie Telegadis (One Stupid Thing), Mohana Krishnan (It Lives Inside), Aidan Laprete (The Pitt), and Lilah Pate (The Runarounds), alongside Emmy Award nominee Molly Shannon (People We Meet on Vacation) and Academy Award nominee Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick).
What’s Driver’s Ed About?
Here’s the official synopsis for Driver’s Ed, courtesy of Vertical:
“From a script by Thomas Moffett (An Actor Prepares), the film follows a group of teens who hit the road in a stolen driver’s ed car, racing against the clock to help a lovesick high school senior (Nivola) track down his college freshman girlfriend (Pate) and win her back. Over the course of one chaotic 24-hour journey, they’re chased by school security and the cops, targeted by small-time crooks, and somehow end up adopting a three-legged cat. The film also stars Alyssa Milano and Tim Baltz.”
Farrelly on Returning to the Road Trip Comedy Genre
Speaking about reviving the art of road trip comedies, Farrelly said, “I’ve been a big fan of road trip comedies ever since we kicked off our career with Dumb & Dumber. What I particularly loved about making Driver’s Ed is that I got to work from a really clever script and with a very fun and talented cast. Win win!”
What else can I confess? I once hot-boxed a mini-bus in the school parking lot. I used to rollerblade through the halls, taking slapshots off lockers with a hard rubber ball. I once got “called-out” for supposedly flirting with someone’s girlfriend (I wasn’t), but the altercation led to an after-school meet-up in the bowling alley parking lot next door. My D.A.R.E. officer from grade school, Officer Eddie, arrived to break things up before they could start. Good times.
