Fly back to the danger zone as Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick return to theaters for one week to celebrate the 40th anniversary
Top Gun 3
Although it was a long journey to get a sequel to Tom Cruise’s iconic 80s aerial combat film, the magic formula was no doubt found for Top Gun: Maverick and Paramount announced at CinemaCon last week that Top Gun 3 is officially a go at the studio. The script is being written, Tom Cruise is attached to star in the film and Jerry Bruckheimer will produce. While a plot has not been revealed, Maverick director Joseph Kosinski has teased, “It actually… I’m trying to describe it without giving anything away. [Laughs.] It’s an existential question that Maverick has to deal with, that would make Maverick feel small, I think, as a movie, compared to what we’re talking about.“ Sounds like his ego is still writing checks his body can’t cash.
Feel the need for speed
Meanwhile, Paramount will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the original film by re-releasing both Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick in theaters for one week only, starting on May 13.
