Laura Dern joins the cast of The White Lotus for season 4 to replace Helena Bonham Carter
A new guest checks in
HBO wastes no time in teasing fans on the upcoming season of their hit comedy/drama series The White Lotus. The show had recently announced that season 4 has officially started filming on the French Riviera. The new installment will film in Cannes, St. Tropez, and Monaco. Filming will also take place in Paris, though the story will remain along the Côte d’Azur. Unfortunately, one of the notable cast members (and pretty much the first actor to sign on), Helena Bonham Carter, has departed from the show. It was said that “it had become apparent” that the character created by White for Carter “did not align once on set.”
Deadline is reporting that Laura Dern will now be starring in Carter’s place, but she will not be portraying the character left vacated by her. White is developing and writing a new character around Dern. As Carter’s role was an important and central one to the season, it was decided that, to make it work, the character would be rewritten and another actor would be cast in the role. Dern’s name was one that was at the top of the list. Dern had already worked on The White Lotus with a voice cameo in the previous season.
The occupants of season 4
The official logline reads,
“The fourth season will follow a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over the span of a week, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival.”
Checking in for the next season will be a cast that stars Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Dylan Ennis, Corentin Fila, Ari Graynor, Marissa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani, and Nadia Tereszkiewicz. Additional cast includes Chloe Bennet, Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Frida Gustavsson, Charlie Hall, Jarrad Paul, Rosie Perez, Ben Schnetzer, and Laura Smet.
The hotels featured this season include the Airelles Château de la Messardière as the White Lotus du Cap, and the Hôtel Martinez as the White Lotus Cannes. The series is created, written, and directed by Mike White; executive produced by White, David Bernad, and Mark Kamine.
